Built in 1898, the original bakery buildings on this historic site surrounded a courtyard of stables and coach houses.

Comprised of three separate buildings (the Bake House, the Lodge House and the Coach Houses), the Bakery Place development transformed this neglected space into 11 unique residential units, each a benchmark for 21st century living.

Our design offers a contemporary and distinctive living environment that celebrates the history of the original buildings. Our design blends the old and new with carefully selected and positioned materials used to draw attention to the detail and craftsmanship of the original. Exposed brickwork and modular glazed screens add charm and character, whilst double height top-lit spaces and lightweight steel stairs add a contemporary edge.

“Jo Cowen Architects took what was at the time a flagship project for us all the way from its initial conception to delivery. They opened up an old Victorian industrial space creating light, modern fully functioning apartments and the results were award winning!”
