Jo Cowen Architects were appointed to work on the full refurbishment of this London home. The project scope included remodeling of all interior spaces to rationalize and improve the sense of space; extensions to the side and rear; a new basement extension and refurbishment of the front façade. Our client’s aspirations were to have a light, contemporary and modern home with as much open space as possible.
The contrast of light and dark is a recurring theme throughout the house. The dark stained oak timber flooring runs throughout the house and is tied together with the elegantly deigned [designed], fully bespoke staircase. The staircase leading down to the media room from the kitchen was fully custom designed to showcase a floating stair. To tie this in with the main staircase, they were finished in the same dark oak.
The kitchen, in contrast to the timber floor, is a light, bright space fitted with contemporary cabinetry and a composite stone worktop. A striking wrapover glass rooflight the full length of the kitchen floods light to the basement below.
The neutral palette of light and dark is prevalent throughout this home, making it truly unique, spacious and elegant.
