The renovation of this five storey Georgian house in Chelsea involved Jo Cowen Architects who were approached to completely remodel this large Victorian terrace house to create a bright and airy family home.
Our brief was to design a central study to connect with the front drawing room and lofty, well-appointed kitchen & living space to the rear; adding a sunken rear ground floor extension which flows out to the garden.
Materiality, texture and light were key factors in developing the final design. The pale and simple material pallet comprises of buff brick, oak, and elements of smooth and board marked concrete. The rough brick wall provides a textural backdrop to the kitchen and continues externally to the garden. Slim timber fins along the roof light provide internal privacy and shading; filtering light into the deep open plan kitchen.
