Jo Cowen Architects were appointed to work on the full refurbishment of a Victorian terraced house in Fulham’s Peterborough Estate. The project scope included remodelling of the interior spaces, substantially lowering the existing lower ground floor, extensions to the side and rear, a new basement, pod extension and the remodelling of the rear facade and roof.
Our client’s aspirations were to accentuate the Victorian features whilst adding elements of modern design. The glazed metal partition towards the reception room allows for natural light to flood into the hallway, giving a modern touch to the Victorian house. The modern design of the kitchen has been achieved through a fully glazed rear facade which creates an organic flow between the indoor and the outdoor space.
A new bespoke steel and timber staircase from the basement to the top floor ties the whole house together. Light was maximised inside the property where possible including the addition of a large roof light covering the entire stair to bring natural light down through the house.
The palette throughout is very muted to accentuate the client’s playful and eclectic art collection.
