Jo Cowen Architects are pleased to have completed this complete rebuild, including façade retention and basement excavations of a mid-terrace property on St. Dionis Street in Parsons Green.
The project included a full basement excavation and ground first and second floor extensions to the rear, doubling the overall square footage of the original house.
The basement level houses a media room, a fully temperature-controlled wine room, enclosed study, guest washroom, TV room with custom joinery and a utility space. The ground floor utilises an open plan living space to maximise the narrow footprint of the house. Removing walls on this floor allowed for a bright, light, and spacious area to accommodate the kitchen, dining area and living area which all flow seamlessly into the back garden. The upper floors include four well-appointed double bedrooms and three bathrooms.
The material palette for this house is bold, refined, and sophisticated. Dark veneer (which wood?) is utilised throughout the property for joinery. The kitchen is finished in crown cut veneer showcasing the fine grain of the natural timber. The kitchen backsplash is finished with an antique mirror which helps to complement the kitchen cabinets. Window architraves are painted a deep grey which complements the chocolatey tone of the veneer.
One of the most successful features of this property is the side return of the rear extension. The addition of a full height green wall adds a sophisticated visual point of interest and defines the project as a contemporary yet refined home.
