Jo Cowen Architects were commissioned to design the full remodelling of this well-appointed mews house in Kensington.
The project involved the full demolition and rebuild of the existing property. This included rationalising the floorplates to improve the layout and functionality of the mews house. Better proportions in rooms were achieved that allowed us to create a range of spaces from entertaining to more private and intimate spaces. A full rebuild allowed us to improve ceiling heights, a much-coveted feature for a mews house.
The full basement includes a dining room and a custom built fully cooled wine cellar, complete with brass trims. All joinery in the project is fully bespoke, featuring stained oak veneer and integrated lighting. The bathrooms are finished in large format Calcutta marble slabs, custom vanity units and brass tap fittings.
One of the most beautiful features is the fully bespoke staircase with a bespoke designed handrail by Jo Cowen Architects that carefully matches the oak tone on the treads. The spindles were hand sanded and finished in a bronze effect paint.
The roof extension allowed Jo Cowen Architects to provide a desirable terrace for our client; an unlikely and surprising element that we were pleased to be able to include.
The result of Stratton House is a beautifully bespoke project tailored to our client’s needs and a generous increase in footage from the original property.
