Nkesi joined Jo Cowen Architects from Studio Seilern Architects, where she gained extensive experience working on a range of projects of varying scales. These included a new build house in Oxfordshire, a refurbishment of an old chapel into an artist’s home and studio, a concert hall in Andermatt Switzerland, as well as many others.
Working on the refurbishment of the Grade II Listed chapel in Wandsworth and working as Project Lead for the new build house in Oxfordshire was where she honed her interest in the domestic scale projects, working directly with the clients and contractors and consultants to find solutions for what were very complex projects, on a very complex site.
Prior to Studio Seilern Architects, Nkesi worked at Patel Taylor Architects, where she was working in a team on a number of large-scale masterplanning projects for clients such as St George on the London Dock and Berkeley Homes on Stephenson Street masterplan and building design.
Nkesi completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, where she was shortlisted for the Rossant Drawing Award. She went on to complete her Part II at London Metropolitan University, where she was part of the RIBA Silver Medal Award winning team who designed and built Sunbloc, a highly insulated, lightweight, prototypical house that relies on composite construction systems that lend themselves to sites such as rooftops, where access and transport is too limited. Not only was this a vastly theoretical project, but also a practical one too. Nkesi went on to complete her Part III studies at the University of Westminster, and graduated as an Architect in February 2017
